Launch Event - Looking for Merlin WWI Exhibition and Significant WWI Donation Unveiling
Overview
A special event launching two significant WWI displays at Museum of the Riverina.
Looking for Merlin explores the life and sacrifice in the final days of WWI of Wagga Wagga local Merlin Kinneir-Tarte. The digital exhibition traces the story of WWI through the prism of one soldier's journey. This digital exhibition is accompanied by a new display case of Merlin's personal effects, which were recovered from the battlefield at the time of his death.
Alongside the launch of this new exhibition, Museum of the Riverina will unveil a nationally significant recent donation to the Museum's collection, an important ANZAC relic relating to the Kangaroo March during the First World War. This remarkable item offers a rare and tangible connection to Australia's wartime history and will become a key part of the Museum's ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing stories of service and sacrifice.
During the event, museum staff will share insights into the research and curatorial process behind the exhibition and outline the history and significance of the newly-discovered object.
Following the official proceedings guests can enjoy morning tea, while taking the opportunity to view the newly donated object and the display of Merlin's personal effects.
