Celebrate one of Australia's most extraordinary and elusive creatures with a stop at Boggabri's Giant Pink Slug statue — a vibrant tribute to the iconic Mount Kaputar Pink Slug, found only in the cool, misty forests of nearby Mount Kaputar National Park.

This brilliantly fluorescent species, officially known as Triboniophorus aff. graeffei, can grow up to 20cm long and is famous for its striking colour, unique ecology, and rarity. While sightings in the wild are reserved for lucky early-morning hikers after rain, the Boggabri sculpture guarantees the perfect photo opportunity — and symbolises diversity, individuality, and the region's deep connection to its natural wonders.

The statue has also become a community favourite, sparking local memories of real-life slug encounters and inspiring young artists like Griffin Barber, whose award-winning "Hug the Slug" artwork helped shine a national spotlight on this endangered species and its fragile volcanic habitat.

As part of Boggabri's Merton Street Project, the sculpture encourages travellers to pause, explore, and enjoy the town's unique charm. Snap a selfie with this colourful celebrity, grab a coffee or lunch nearby, and discover the diverse local businesses that make Boggabri such a welcoming stop on your Narrabri Region journey.
