Sitting in the heart of Murwillumbah, The Imperial is an iconic pink art deco pub and hotel within walking distance of the town’s main attractions (M Arts included).

Born in 1931, The Imperial is one of the Tweed’s oldest hotels and an iconic example of the region’s famous Art Deco architecture.

It also boasts a past more colourful than its salmon pink exterior - it’s been burnt down (twice), reconstructed (twice), and claims its resident ghost. The Higgins Imperial Hotel was originally on site, the two-storey timber structure constructed before 1906.

This building burnt down in the great fire of Murwillumbah in 1907, before being re-constructed in 1908. In 1929, a second town fire occurred, claiming (again) The Impy. The art deco-style building was completed in 1931 and funded by owners Tooheys Brewery.

The Impy boasts 29 rooms - 28 upstairs, alongside a disability access room downstairs.

Accommodation ranges from single to superior queen rooms, with some exterior rooms offering adjoining balconies, while interior rooms are armed with skylights.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, ensuites, kitchenettes and minibars, flat-screen TVs and organic Ideology Botanical products.

Disabled access available, contact operator for details.
