Lord Howe Island was discovered on 17th February 1788 by Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball, Commander of the armed tender of the First Fleet, HMS Supply. In previous years tourists are welcomed to join the local community in celebrating the discovery of the Island each year with track and field events for all ages.
