Emerging in the winter of 2021, Strawberry Prince is the solo project of singer-songwriter Aidan Bairstow. Cutting his teeth in Canberra’s vibrant music scene, the past two and a half years have seen the project evolve into a unique blend of indie-folk, alt-country and jangle, characterised by warm vocals and alternately tuned guitars.

2022 saw the release of his debut single ‘Chinese Takeout’. Musically understated, the track epitomises the Prince’s talents for deftly balancing humour, melancholy, and an unwavering earnestness. The lyrics for ‘Chinese Takeout’ were featured the following year in the third edition of the American zine ‘Paper Frames’, published by Sunroom Bookz and co-edited by Field Medic.

‘Chinese Takeout’ and sophomore single ‘Love Shack, Maybe’ (concerning a fictitious nightclub that plays the B-52’s seminal 1989 hit ‘Love Shack’ on an endless loop) appeared on the self-titled Strawberry Prince EP, released in 2023. The year also saw the introduction of a full band (the ‘Strawberry Monarch’), furthering the sonic evolution and experimentation of the project’s more recent material.
