Arthur Wicks was born in Sydney on the 11th of August 1937. Now living in Wagga he is one of Australia’s well-known contemporary artists. Wicks employs the use of such media as photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting, video and performance. He has been known to produce artworks addressing controversial issues such as politics and war.

Arthur Wicks studied at the University of Sydney where he completed a Bachelor of Science, followed by a Diploma of Education in 1958. He then went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University.

His art career began to take off with his first solo exhibition held at the Nundah Galleries in Canberra in 1966. Arthur Wicks was awarded a French Government Scholarship in 1967 to study printmaking with renowned British printmaker Stanley Hayter at his studio in Paris. From then on Wicks travelled, worked, performed and exhibited in many countries around Europe.

He returned to Australia in the mid-1980s and continued to produce art and exhibit in galleries in major cities and regional areas
