At Pieter van Gent Winery, savour a visit to one of Mudgee’s oldest cellar doors, home to the original White Port, offering wine tastings, bicycle tours and boutique accommodation.
In the winery's cask hall, beneath the cobwebs, barrels full of wine are maturing in an almost tangible slumber. By contrast, you are invited to investigate where technology meets tradition in the winery's tank room where the grape starts the transition into wine.
Wine tastings are conducted in the cask hall, which is dotted with barriques, puncheons, and antique choir stalls, and flanked by twenty old German oak casks (circa 1850) used for storing wines. These came from Penfolds Cellars, once located in the basement of Sydney’s famous Queen Victoria Building.
