Nestled along the Oxley Highway, just 20 kilometres east of Gunnedah, Carroll takes its name from the Kamilaroi word for "forked tree." This picturesque village rests on the banks of the Namoi River, which meanders gracefully beside the highway. Only a short 10-minute drive from Lake Keepit – a popular spot for fishing, boating and family recreation – Carroll sits within the rich agricultural landscape of the Liverpool Plains.

The surrounding district is renowned for producing cotton, wheat, sorghum, sunflowers, chickpeas, faba beans, fat lambs and beef cattle. Carroll Cotton, established in 1995, serves as a vital processing hub for local cotton growers throughout the Upper Namoi Valley. Coach tours are welcome by prior arrangement.

Visitors can stop in at the Carroll General Store, open daily for coffee, takeaway meals, petrol, fishing bait, Supagas supplies and local liqueur products. The Carroll Sports Ground, located just off the highway, offers a children's playground, shaded picnic tables and public toilets – a perfect place to pause and enjoy the peaceful rural scenery.

Fun Fact: Carroll has produced Olympic legends! Both Kibah Tic-Toc (dual gold medallist, Barcelona 1992) and Kibah Sandstone (gold medallist, team 1992 and 2000) were bred at Kibah, a property near the village.
