Hands-On-History Experiences - The Tichborne Claimant in Wagga Wagga

Overview

In the 1860s, a man working as a butcher in Wagga Wagga claimed to be a missing English aristocrat and triggered one of the longest trials in British legal history. In the 1860s, a man working as a butcher in Wagga Wagga claimed to be a missing English aristocrat and triggered one of the longest trials in British legal history. The Tichborne Claimant is the story we'll dive into at our inaugural Hands-on-History Experiences event, presented by Family History Holidays.

The event has two parts, over two days in Wagga Wagga.

The Workshop is a half-day session at the Museum of the Riverina for members of local heritage organisations, historical societies and genealogy groups. Their guest family historian, Brad Argent, leads the group through the Tichborne Claimant story and its connection to the Riverina, including a First Nations perspective on Wiradjuri Country. Morning tea and lunch featuring local Riverina produce are included.

The Discovery Day is a full day of private, curated experiences for a small group of guests with an interest in exploring the Riverina's past. The day includes morning sessions with Brad Argent, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum of the Riverina, private lunch, a choice of two guided 90-minute afternoon experiences — heritage walk, cemetery tour, archives access or an Aboriginal river walk — and cocktails and canapés at The Riverine Club. Two nights' accommodation at The Houston Boutique Hotel is included.

Bookings are essential for both events.
