Terara is a small rural settlement located on the southern banks of the Shoalhaven River, just three kilometres east of Nowra.

It holds an important place in local history as the first settlement established on the south side of the river. However, severe flooding led to the township being relocated, contributing to the later growth of Nowra.

Today, Terara is a quiet, dairy‑farming area known for its peaceful riverside setting and remnants of its past. A handful of picturesque weatherboard houses remain, offering a glimpse into the area's early colonial history and rural character.
