Afraid of the Dark – Ballina Players
Overview
Ballina Players presents Afraid of the Dark, a fast-paced comedy by James Reach across seven performances.
Set on an isolated honeymoon getaway, the play follows newlyweds Chauncey and Lillums as a quiet romantic escape descends into glorious chaos. When the lights go out in their grand (and not-so-empty) mansion, Chauncey's lifelong fear of the dark is put to the test. What follows is a parade of bizarre characters, spooky surprises and laugh-out-loud mishaps that prove things are never quite what they seem.
Directed by Fran Legge, who last brought Are You Being Served to the Ballina stage in 2024, the production features a cast of 17 actors selected from more than 30 auditionees. Tory Puglisi stars as Chauncey, returning after previous stage roles and work as assistant director on Chicago. He is joined by Harriet Mackie as Lillums, making her Ballina Players debut. Jaime Sheehan also returns to the stage as Mrs Mayhew, her first acting role since The Little Mermaid in 2018.
A must-see comedy for theatre lovers who enjoy their laughs with a side of suspense.
