Parkside Cottage Museum
Highlights
Overview
The Parkside Cottage Museum is situated in a 19th Century cottage and was established in 1968.
Explore the story of early riverboat trade along the Murrumbidgee with navigation maps from Captain T. Bynon and discover rare artefacts like a snowshoe and wooden snow ski from Scott's Antarctic Expedition.
The museum holds some extremely important items for Narrandera and district including Wiradjuri artefacts, stories and memorabilia from the extensive Chinese settlement that once hugged the river banks, and a first-rate yesteryear Telecom equipment display, through which you can hear stories from Narrandera's past.
Amongst the museum's treasures is a scarlet-coloured merino cloak made from the first bale of merino wool sent to England by the Macarthur family in 1816.
Borrow a walkman or scan the QR codes to do an audio-tour of some of Narrandera's key historic buildings, and if you're passing at night, stop to admire the weather-responsive light sculpture located on the roof!
The friendly volunteers are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the intriguing items on display.
