The museum consists of a main exhibition hall and two art galleries. The design of the building is based on an aircraft hangar and is located at the entrance of HMAS Albatross, overlooking the runway.

The museum aims to tell the story of naval aviation in Australia through displays of aircraft, technology, models, clothing and personal memorabilia.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum presents aircraft from the early twentieth century through to the modern era and audio-visual displays telling the stories of those who have served Australia in the Fleet Air Arm.
