Bermagui is a beautiful town on the Sapphire Coast with lovely beaches, ocean pools and coastal walks. With the continental shelf only 20km offshore, Bermagui's blue waters are famous for deep-sea game fishing. Explore the pretty harbour, discover local produce and wineries, and go further afield in search of adventure.
Start with a swim in a Sapphire Coast icon, the famed Bermagui Blue Pool. Carved into the cliff above the ocean almost a century ago, its waters range from dark sapphire to vibrant turquoise and even sparkling gold with the movement of the sun. There's more crystal clear water to be found at Cuttagee Beach and Mimosa Rocks National Park, between Bermagui and Tathra, is dotted with pristine beaches.

Join the experts at FishBermi for a day out on the water. The tours cater for all levels of skill, from beginners to experienced anglers and kayakers. You will find a huge variety of fish in the deep blue ocean off Bermagui including morwong, kingfish, snapper, yellowfin tuna and black marlin. In winter, look for whales along the Humpback Highway on a tour with Sapphire Coastal Adventures.
Catch a wave with Camel Rock Surf School, who offer group and private lessons, courses for kids and even special Waves for Women classes. For a peaceful morning, join a kayaking tour with Navigate Expeditions on the pretty Bermagui River. The tranquil Wallaga Lake is popular for fishing and boating, and holds special significance for the local Aboriginal people.
Nearby is the Montreal Goldfield, a well-preserved example of colonial alluvial diggings. Flip through the events calendar to find festivals such as ReBoot in Bermagui and Sculpture Bermagui.
Kayaking on the Bermagui River, Bermagui
The co-operative at Bermagui Fishermen’s Wharf is one of the largest seafood suppliers in the state. Taste the freshest catch at the fish and chip shops and restaurants inside the wharf complex, like Blue Wave Seafood and The Sundeck. On Thursday afternoons over spring, summer and autumn, you can visit a local grower's market held at the Bermagui Country Club.

The rich soils in the region support farms and vineyards like Mimosa Wines. You can visit the cellar door then sit down to lunch at the restaurant, which celebrates locally sourced produce like Narooma squid and Tathra duck. Built in 1895 and located in the heart of town, Bermagui Beach Hotel is a hub for locals and tourists alike. Oozing small-town charm, dishing up classic pub grub and playing live music on weekends, all will feel right at home from the moment they walk inside.

Bermagui is just over five hours’ drive from Sydney, eight hours from Melbourne and 3h 30min from Canberra. You can fly into Merimbula Airport and rent a car for the scenic drive to Bermagui, which takes just over an hour.
