Exhibition: Was / Wasn't / Won't Be
Overview
Tegan Bailey's exhibition Was/Wasn't/Won't Be interrogates the archetypal roles and moral ideals that take root inside the female body. By investigating the cultural equation of womanhood with motherhood, the exhibition questions how reproductive function is used as a measure of worth and the quiet violence used to erase those who fall outside these scripts. The work serves as a site of reclamation, using art-making to explore the tension between maternal hope and the right to a self-determined identity.
