Stargazing Under the Orange Sky at Borrodell
Overview
This December, Borrodell's cellar door becomes a Stellar Door.
At more than 1,000 metres up Gaanha-bula (Mount Canobolas), far from the city glow, Borrodell Estate is one of the best places in the region to look up. For two nights only, Borrodell teams up with Blue Mountains Stargazing for an evening under the Southern Sky.
The night begins on the terrace with a glass of Borrodell wine and a spread of local cheese as the sun goes down. Astrophysicist Dr Dimitri Douchin leads a guided telescope tour. Dimitri has led more than 1,000 stargazing tours, from Sydney Observatory to Wolgan Valley, and shares the stories behind the stars as well as the science.
Early December is planet season, and Saturn is the star of the show, rings and all. It's also a new moon week, so the skies will be properly dark and full of constellations.
Spots are strictly limited each night. Bring a warm layer, as it gets chilly at altitude, even in summer. If cloud cover means the sky can't be seen, guests receive a three-year credit redeemable at Borrodell, transferable as a gift.
Make a night of it and stay over in one of Borrodell's suites.
