Bingara District Historical and Military Museum
Highlights
Overview
Housed in the original Post Office Hotel which was built in 1860 from pit-sawn and hand-sewn local cypress timber, the building once had a very mixed clientele, including the ‘Father of Federation’, Sir Henry Parkes, and Fred Ward the bushranger.
It was also once a blacksmith’s shop and an old school room from the days when one-teacher schools were very popular among the small country towns and villages.
The museum is home to historical machinery, local memorabilia and an extensive geological collection.
