Join Jeremy Hegge, founder of Partial Veil, for a citizen science–focused fungi foray in the Bega Valley.

This walk is about slowing down, looking closely and learning how to document fungi properly.  You will understand the puzzle of mushroom identification and just how little is known about the incredible fungal diversity! Many local species do not yet have names and being involved in their documentation as a citizen scientist is an important and exciting aspect for Jeremy.

You will explore how to recognise key identifying features, photograph specimens for research value, and understand the ecological roles fungi play as decomposers, symbionts and habitat creators. You will learn how their observations can support mapping projects and biodiversity records, contributing to a growing understanding of Australia's under-documented fungal diversity. Jeremy will also discuss responsible field behaviour and why fungi conservation matters.

Whether you are a beginner, photographer, bushwalker or budding citizen scientist, this is a rare opportunity to learn from one of Australia's leading fungi educators and take part in real-world biodiversity discovery. They will also debunk many of the myths surrounding this mysterious kingdom of life.

Jeremy is a respected field mycologist and educator dedicated to improving fungal literacy in Australia. He trains communities in accurate observation, ethical field practice and data recording, helping everyday nature lovers contribute meaningfully to scientific knowledge.
