Sea Shanties - Celebrating 150 years of Robertson Basin
Overview
Ships had moored at what is now called Kiama Harbour since the early days of European settlement. However, it was the construction of a deeper water protected mooring that enabled the port to thrive. Started in 1868, Robertson Basin was officially opened on September 20, 1876. This heralded a quarrying boom in Kiama, bringing prosperity to the area.
To celebrate the harbour's anniversary join Kiama Sea Shanty Club and Kiama Historical Society to hear traditional folk songs sung by sailors that helped them pull ropes in unison. Some of these shanties feature local Kiama stories.
This is a free event, buy your drinks at the downstairs bar and join the fun upstairs at Tory's Hotel (Kiama Inn Hotel).
