Black Light Nights
Overview
Join a limited season of tours in September that reveal the hidden glow of Glenrock State Conservation Area, Newcastle, NSW.
In this event, a small group will be guided on foot to search for fluorescent scorpions, lichen, spiders and more. You will be given specialist UV equipment. Be prepared to walk up to 3 kilometres on uneven, muddy ground.
Your guide, Dr Karen Livesey of Glenrock Ghost Fungus Tours, is an award-winning scientist, speaker and founder. You will learn about biofluorescence and black light.
This event is suitable for ages 8+. Note that no glowing ghost fungus will be seen on this tour option since they appear in autumn. No pets are allowed and there are no facilities such as toilets in the park. You must wear long pants, long sleeves and closed shoes for safety reasons.
Friday nights offer adults-only tours (18+). Saturday nights are for all ages (8+).
