Artist Talk - with Janet Heisner at Rusten House
Overview
Rusten House Art Centre presents an Artist Talk with Janet Heisner.
Janet will discuss the significance of radiation masks in her arts practice.
The use of radiation masks within her work arose from the personal experience of her husband underging radiation therapy. There is a duality to the masks, which represent the difficult experience of the therapy itself, as well as their symbolism of hope and use in healing.
In this engaging discussion, Janet will reference her current works on display as part of the group exhibition Synergy at Rusten House, as well as her previous exhibiiton Hope held in Hervey Bay Regional Gallery. She will give insight into how the radiation masks are made, and the evolution of their use with her arts practice.
Janet hopes her masks are seen as a positive and empowering object. She welcomes anyone hoping to learn more about her artworks, and those with personal connections to radiation therapy and cancer, be that as health care workers, through family and friends, or those with their own lived experience.
This is a Free talk followed by afternoon tea.
