Cuisine from Nanjing province in China is not easy to find in Sydney, which is what makes this cheap-and-cheerful restaurant so special. The region’s most famous dish is salted duck, and that’s a staple on the menu here. But you can also order duck in many other incarnations, including crispy fried duck tongues, duck fried rice and noodle soups that use every part of the bird.
The other Nanjing specialties you can order are steamed dumplings, which are similar to Shanghai’s famous xiao long bao soup dumplings. There are also more traditional steamed and fried dumpling versions, if you don’t trust yourself with the piping hot soup.
The pastry chef here also works overtime making sesame pies, which you can buy in both a sweet (black sesame) and savoury (pork mince, spring onions, coriander) versions. Grab a couple to take away.
