Step back in time to when the dinosaurs ruled the earth in this caves and fossils road trip. Begin in Sydney at the Australian Museum by inspecting their collection of dinosaur skeletons and then start driving towards Lithgow. A good stopover for refreshments is Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, with many restaurants, cafes and pubs.
Closer to Lithgow, don't miss the famous Glow Worm Tunnel in the Wollemi National Park and the wonder of the Jenolan Caves, Australia’s oldest and most perfectly preserved limestone cave systems, before driving onwards to Bathurst. From there, travel to wine country in Orange, exploring the tiny historical villages of Blayney, Carcoar and Millthorpe along the way, for arts, crafts and National Trust-preserved buildings.
In Orange, indulge in some of Australia’s finest produce and cool climate wines, and in Wellington, time travel back two million years to check out the local megafauna (fossils, that is).
Driving tired is the second biggest killer on NSW roads after speeding, so it's important to stop, revive, survive. See tips and advice for planning and taking your trip, so that you arrive safely at your holiday destination.
