Hi I’m Luke Tscharke (pronounced like “sharky”) and I’m an award winning landscape photographer based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. I’m originally from South Australia, and after doing a stint in Melbourne, I moved to Sydney in 2010. Initially I lived in Kirribilli, right on Sydney Harbour. As a passionate photographer this was a great place to be based and had many options to photograph the city that I had begun to fall in love with. More recently I have moved to the Northern Beaches of Sydney and am now spoilt for choice of amazing beaches and pools to photograph nearby.

Over the years I have lived in Sydney I have been fortunate to travel to some stunning places within New South Wales. Some of the locations close to Sydney such as the Blue Mountains or Royal National Park, are a landscape photographers dream, and I have spent many enjoyable weekends exploring them. Further afield there are even more areas to photograph, and I genuinely could not nominate a favourite place to visit. However, I would certainly recommend Kiama, Narooma/Bermagui, Warrumbungles, Port Stephens, Central Coast, and Kosciuszko National Park as just the start.

I really enjoy camping and bushwalking, which enables me to go the extra distance in order to “get the shot”. I try to head down to Kosciousko National Park a few times per year to be immersed in the natural environment there. This year I was fortunate to have two of my images from my travels in New South Wales be selected as magazine covers for Australian Geographic Magazine. Both of which were taken on camping adventures.

I mainly photograph landscapes, and more recently have developed a love for astrophotography – photographing the stars. I try to capture scenes in a unique way, even if they have been photographed before. Landscape photographers are very lucky as we make a point of searching out the most stunning locations in order to see them at the most beautiful time of year, and in the most awe-inspiring light. We then get to capture this scene and share it with many people, inspiring them to go out and do the same. Photography is very rewarding to me and I’d love for you to follow my adventures!
