World Rally Championship slides into Coffs Coast

Get to the Coffs Coast for the Coates Hire Rally Australia this September.

Put your pedal to the metal and get yourself to the Coffs Coast for the World Rally Championship this September.

Coates Hire Rally Australia is the Australian leg of the FIA World Rally Championship. To even be considered to host such a race, the location must offer a real challenge for drivers and cars alike with tough and varied conditions unlike anything else around the globe.

This leg of the race is the tenth round of the worldwide competition. Therefore when racers hit the tracks in Coffs Harbour, the road will carve out just part of a challenging 350 kilometre race around the planet in some of the roughest conditions possible.

Naturally, this makes for an excellent spectator sport.

From Thursday September 12 to Sunday 15 2013, the area will see the event bring in some of the biggest international stars in motorsports to battle for the bragging rights and titles on offer during the rally.

The first run in the Coffs Coast was back in 2011, and due to the popularity of that event motor heads will be able to revisit the race a second time.

Rally Australia began in Perth in 1988 where it hosted a leg of the world race for the following 18 years. In 2009 the New South Wales Northern Rivers region got a taste of the event before it moved to the Coffs Coast.

President of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Andrew Papadopoulos was excited to see the event come to the area, saying “the Coffs Coast region is a wonderful destination every day of the year – but it is even more so when some of the biggest stars in world motor sport are fighting to win a world championship rally on the region’s roads”.

The Coffs Coast region has plenty of accommodation options so you can make a weekend of it and stay for the whole race.
