Music lovers gather by the Murray River at the Riverboats Music Festival

Plan your travels around New South Wales to make the most of these exciting events taking place in February, 2015.

Surfest 6 – 22 February

Newcastle celebrates its 30th year of Surfest with more than 800 national and competitors battling it out at Merewether Beach, one of Australia’s National Surfing Reserves. The festival features the Burton Automotive Pro (Men’s ASP 6-Star) and the Burton Automotive Women’s Classic (Women’s ASP 1-Star), along with eight supporting events, in what is one of the largest festivals of surfing in the southern hemisphere.

Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour 6 – 8 February

Considered the spiritual home of Australian motorsport, the town of Bathurst hosts The Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on the iconic Mount Panorama racetrack. As one of the most prestigious races on the international GT calendar,  the annual event tests the limits of endurance and performance, attracting a large number of international and Australian entrants. The event is held over three days and also includes three different support race categories: Radical Sportscars, Formula Ford and Improved Production.

Australian Bowl-riding Championships 7 February

Australia’s national skateboarding competition is held at Bar Beach in Newcastle. See some of the country’s best bowl skateboarders compete across four different divisions: masters, pro/amateur open, womens, and under 18s.

Riverboats Music Festival 13 – 15 February

This contemporary music festival takes place under towering river red gums beside the Murray River where historic paddle-steamers meander past all weekend in the twin towns of Echuca Moama. A beautiful natural amphitheatre next to the river will host a stellar line-up of internationally-renowned artists including Sarah Blasko, Dan Sultan, Tex Perkins and The Dark Horses, The Whitlams, and many more.

Navy Australia Surf Rowers Open 20 – 22 February

The Navy Australia Surf Rowers Open travels to Shellharbour near Wollongong for its grand final season event. Watch mighty boat crews power their way through huge breakers in what is gripping competition viewing.

Tre-X Oceania Cross Traithlon 28 February – 2 March

This bushland triathlon is based in the spectacular Snowy Mountains, taking in the trails, rivers, hills, lakes and bushland of this iconic region. The weekend also includes events for all levels of athletes, juniors and families, including the free Mud Rats Dirt Run and trail runs of 15 km, 10 km and 5 km.

Destination NSW Home Ground Cricket Tour all month

A summer celebration of cricket and community that will travel through 27 towns across NSW in the lead up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Visit the Travelling Cricket Museum and keep an eye out for appearances by cricketing legends throughout the tour. In February, the tour visits the towns of Bathurst, Gosford, Newcastle, Cessnock and Singleton.
