Rolling out the red carpet by the green for the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic

14 October 2013

The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic will tee off in Pokolbin in December this year.

Let's be honest, it can be tough for a golf-loving guy and his celebrity-following gal to find things to do together on weekends. Check out the test match, or stay in for a celebrity news marathon on E! channel?

It can be a tough call, but it doesn't have to be, as the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic brings together the best of both worlds for a weekend event that everyone can enjoy.

Local celebrities and professional golfers will be lining up on December 17 and 18 to play in a 36-hole tournament, all in the name of charity.

Diabetes Australia, a group dedicated to raising awareness and dropping rates of this disease across the country, is set to benefit from the Classic.

The Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation also gets some charity attention from the event, which helps to foster up-and-coming golf talent in the area. Since 1979, the Newton Classic and Diabetes Corporate Cup have together raised over $3 million for these worthy causes.

Over 50 celebrities from all walks of the red carpet will be competing – and only some of them are from fields not even faintly related to golf, so there are sure to be plenty of divots, lost balls, slices and hooks.

Meanwhile, 50 professional golfers will be teeing up alongside the film stars, entertainers and comedians, so you can guarantee at least some of them will end up on the green.

All the action is going down at the Cypress Lakes Resort in the beautiful Pokolbin area of Hunter Valley, a stunning location that offers accommodation, food and wine that's just as good as the golfing.

And the best part of the 'hole' event? It's absolutely free for anyone to head along, or you can fork out $6 to join in the BBQ and have lunch on site!

If it's the golf and not the celebrities that have you interested in this event, then it might also be worth checking out the Australian Open Golf Championship coming to town November 28 to December 1. You can expect big names known only for their proficiency in golf such as Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott. This is one of the highlights of the year for those interested in golf in Sydney and New South Wales, so be sure not to miss it!
