15 January 2014
In a country famed for its great surf and impressive surfers, this event is ta highlight of the surfing calendar and can’t be missed for surfers of all levels and sport fans.
Now celebrating its 29th anniversary in Newcastle, Surfest will see a collection of the world’s best when it comes to professional surf in both men’s and women’s categories.
For the men, the Burton Toyota Pro will attract professionals to try their hands – and boards – at winning the coveted Mark Richards ‘MR’ trophy. Meanwhile, Merewether Beach will be packed as the women’s group compete for the Hunter Ports Women’s Classic title.
Making this event extra special in 2014 is the addition of a new category. As Pro Junior surfing in Australia becomes bigger, our country’s younger talent will be recognised with the inaugural Hunter Business Boards Riders Pro Junior competition, from February 14-18.
With so much action on the waves, the promise of gorgeous golden beaches, great waves and top athletes out on the water, surfing is regarded as a fantastic spectator sport.
Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this year’s event. Book in your Newcastle accommodation early and stake out your spot on the beach with a few towels and a picnic to catch all of the drama. You could even stay a little later, or arrive a little earlier, and take the time to look around at the area and all the other activities on offer – such as surfing classes for yourself!
