10 April 2014
Fuelarama will kick off Round 1 of the 2014 Offshore Superboat Series with the Offshore Superboat Championships beginning on Saturday 26 April from 10am. Three classes of Supercats – described as V8s in the water – will race around Newcastle Harbour at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Saturday will also be the first time in 20 years that offshore superboats will have a pole position course inside this harbour. Head to the pits at Foreshore Park early on Saturday and Sunday morning to see all the boats being craned into the water before the races.
In honour of the ANZAC weekend, the 1000 hp class will be running an Australian verses New Zealand challenge. The Australian crewed Team 3- Brig will challenge New Zealand’s Global Racing team. Prime viewing spots for all of the superboat races can be found along the Newcastle foreshore between the Honeysuckle Hotel and Foreshore Park.
Check out the latest in boating products and innovation at the Boat & Leisure Show in Foreshore Park across the weekend. Hundreds of boating brands will be on display, including the latest in fishing, multihulls, trailers, jet skis, family boats and tinnies, as well as huge range of services.
Wharf Road and the foreshore car parks will be the centre of all things petrol across the weekend. Check out the Ute Muster, Show ‘n’ Shine, Hot Rod and Hot Bike display. The Australian vs. American vs. England Muscle Car Competition will feature both old and new vehicles. To display your own ride arrive at the roundabout at Watt Street and Wharf Road by 8am; pay $10 to display for one day or $15 for both days. The best car and bike will be awarded with $500 and $300 in prize money, respectively.
Book your Newcastle accommodation and spend the ANZAC weekend surrounded by some of the fastest and most impressive machines in the country.
