As summer draws to a close, there’s no better time to make the most of the warmer weather and longer daylight. From volcanic fun runs to delicious craft beer and BBQs, here are some of the best events happening in Regional NSW this March.
Newcrest Orange Challenge, Orange
Head to Orange for a fabulous cycling challenge. A European-style one-day classic, cyclists can choose between a gruelling 170km ride with a nine-hour time limit, or a 70km ride which descends around 600 metres to finish in nearby Canowindra. Riders and guests can also sample some outstanding local produce from the Food and Wine Festival at the finish line.
Boomerang Festival, Byron Bay
Take a trip to Byron Bay and discover the beauty and complexity of Aboriginal culture at Boomerang Festival. Be inspired, learn about the rich history and celebrate the emerging talent within the Indigenous community. The festival features a wide range of music, dance, film, visual arts and theatre as well as thought-provoking talks and cultural workshops.
Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge, Orange
Get involved and run the Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge in 2017. Participants in this event can run or walk the 11km course to the top of Mount Canobolas. The track offers beautiful views from rarely used bush trails and forest surrounds.
NSW Pro Surf Series – Central Coast Pro, Avoca Beach
Head to the shores of Avoca Beach to watch the final stop on the NSW Pro Surf Series. This five-day competition will showcase the best in surfing talent from home and abroad, with 200 men and women hitting the waves in the hopes of winning both ranking points and prize money.
Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup, Albury
Racing fans rejoice as the Albury Gold Cup returns for another year. This prestigious event welcomes over 18,000 visitors as jockeys ready the horses for one of Australia’s premier country racing carnivals. Enjoy the range of hospitality tents and marquees available, as well as the electric atmosphere of race day.
Meat-lovers and craft beer geeks will love Crafted Live: Brewed and BBQ’d, an event where craft beer, cider and smoked meats collide in a unique celebration of local produce. Watch competitive barbecuing teams set it off alongside Australia’s premier craft beer and cider brewers. There will also be live music and workshops that’ll have you dancing the day away at this one-of-a-kind festival.
