Celebrate the end of summer at Summerside Festival

21 February 2014

Celebrate the end of summer with fine food and wine at the Summerside Festival on now until March 2 in the Yass Valley.

The festival brings together the best restaurants, producers and growers of this vibrant region, most of which are found along the Poacher’s Way. The Poacher’s Way is a meandering self-drive gourmet trail based around the areas of Gundaroo, Hall, Yass, Murrumbateman, Bungendore and Canberra.

In a region renowned for its cool-climate wines, there are many notable wine-tasting opportunities on offer at the festival.  Travel to Murrumbateman for a Shiraz Masterclass at Eden Road Wines or enjoy the Canberra District Riesling Tasting at Jeir Creek Wines. Every Friday in February the Winemakers at City Cellar Door program unites a number of the region’s finest wineries for you to sample at the one location in Canberra’s East Hotel.

Summerside Festival is the Yass Valley

Combine your love of wine and food at the Capital Wines Oyster Bar. Fresh oysters are delivered to the Gundaroo cellar door daily, prepared to your choosing – a la natural, Kilpatrick, with melted St Agur blue cheese, with salmon and crème fraiche or with soy, mirin and Doodles Creek Wasabi Mayonnaise – and expertly matched with a wine for your enjoyment.

Craving something sweet? Join chocolatier Robyn Rowe in a chocolate-making demonstration and learn about this ancient art as she explains the chocolate tempering and making process. The Chocolat D’Or owner promises all secrets will be revealed in her store every weekend during the Summerside Festival.

The varying soundscapes of summer can be heard in multiple venues throughout the duration of the festival. Chill out to the sounds of an acoustic guitar session on every Saturday and Sunday at the Poachers Pantry in Hall. The Gundaroo Colonial Inn keeps its patrons entertained with local live music artists and bands on weekends. But if it’s Australiana you’re after the Gundaroo Outback Show at Gundaroo Park promises to deliver – it features working bullock teams, camels, working dogs and Reg, the high-diving goanna.

Grab your friends and catch the end of the Summerside Festival, combining the best of summer, food and wine to create the perfect weekend.
