When it comes to long weekends, there is no better place to relax and unwind than the beautiful state of New South Wales – and luckily, there is no shortage of events taking place across our great state over Easter to keep you entertained.
Whether you are looking to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, kick back and listen to a little music or even participate in a bit of friendly competition, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. Here's our round-up of some of the most fun activities taking place across NSW from March 29 to April 1 2013.
Get back to nature
While we're starting to get the first hints of autumn weather, the Easter weekend is still usually a pretty nice time to get outside and enjoy a bit of fresh air and sunshine! Corowa is one community that has really embraced the spirit of the great outdoors – over the long weekend, why not check out its 84th Easter Lawn Tennis Tournament or the the three-day golf tournament at Corowa Golf Club?
Alternatively, keen anglers of all ages and abilities might want to head over to Coffs Harbour to participate in the Easter Fishing Classic. Thousands of dollars of prizes are up for grabs across several categories, including Rock Estuary, Deep Sea, Beach and Game Fishing – and you won't want to miss the charity fish auction taking place on Easter Sunday (March 31, 2013).
Real nature buffs won't want to miss Easter With the Birds – a special birding itinerary planned by Outback Track Tours. This seven-day tour includes a stop at Trilby Station, where participants will be able to enjoy a farm stay on the Darling River south of Bourke.
Festivals and fairs
It's hard to beat festivals and fairs for family fun – and fortunately, you will have plenty to choose from at several NSW destinations.
The Tilba Easter Festival is operated as a non-profit volunteer community project and offers plenty of entertainment for the entire family to enjoy, including street games, food, rides and even an art show. Similarly, the Patonga Easter Fete is held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 and features plenty of local arts and crafts – including works created by local artisans based on the Central Coast.
Alternatively, the Adaminaby Easter Fair offers plenty of fun for all ages with some of its animal-themed attractions – you won't want to miss the dog high jump or the Wacky Quacky Duck Race, to name just two.
If you are hoping to make a full weekend out of your Easter celebrations, you might want to head to Lightning Ridge – home of the mysterious Black Opal – to check out its dynamic and exciting Easter Festival. Events range from horse races to the Miners' Challenge, a celebratory Easter parade and everything in between.
Easter festivities in the harbour city
Sydney is always a brilliant place to spend a few days, and if you intend on being in the NSW capital over the Easter weekend, there are lots of great events you won't want to miss.
The most famous, of course, is the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Events get underway on March 21 and run until April 3, 2013 – they include carnival rides, shopping, delicious foods and numerous celebrations of New South Wales' rich agricultural heritage. The show has been taking place since 1823 and this year, there will be more than 14,000 animals on display – it is the largest festival of its type in the country.
Wherever you choose to celebrate Easter this year, enjoy a happy and safe long weekend.
