If you enjoy watching surfing competitions, then get ready to head to Kiama, only one-and-a-half-hour’s drive from Sydney. From November 30 to December 7, some of the best young surfers in Australia will be competing at the Soundwave Junior Australian Surfing Titles.
Four separate, gorgeous beaches will host this year’s competition, which is expected to draw more than 200 junior surfers from six states. The beaches include Werri Beach, Jones’s Beach, Bombo Beach and Surf Beach, ideal for their large swells and great locations.
The national titles will be awarded for three separate age groups – Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18. Competitors will also be vying for the prestigious Australian School Surfing Association Titles.
Why not take advantage of some of the other sights and activities in the beautiful Kiama region. There’s a gorgeous 22-kilometre coastal walk that will give you the chance to take a dip at some of the more off-the-beaten-track beaches in Kiama.
Visit Natural Necessity, one of the largest independent surf shops in the nation. Located in Gerringong, an adorable seaside town that has more than just pristine beaches.
Foodies will enjoy Gerringong for the food and wines in the region, which make the perfect end to a day spent playing in the waters and lounging in the sun. Golfers will also find this area to be an excellent destination – there are seven quality golf courses nearby.
Inland from Gerringong is the lovely town of Jamberoo, which is a great place to visit for families and the young at heart. The area features beautiful countryside vistas and quaint small-town streets.
