Some of the best restaurants in the city have started offering takeaway service in an effort to make it through this tough time. Now you can support your favourite local restaurants by picking up lunch or dinner, or having it delivered to your door.
Here are just a few of the best restaurants in Inner Sydney, Surry Hills and the Inner West that have pivoted to takeaway and delivery. Give them a helping hand and let them cook for you.
You don't generally see restaurants as critically and publicly acclaimed as Arthur serving up takeaway. It's better known for serving up an adored degustation menu two courses at a time from its gorgeous Bourke Street location. But these days Arthur is still pumping out amazing plates of food, cooked and chilled for Sydneysiders to enjoy at home.

Spawned from the iconic eatery of the same name down in Melbourne, Chin Chin is offering takeaway options for the first time in its storied history. Grab exciting Australian/Southeast Asian mashups that will tickle the taste buds like few other dishes can. Find many of your favourites, but don't forget to add the barbecued cauliflower with curry spiced coconut cream, curry leaf and chilli to your order.

Two-hat Chippendale restaurant Ester is rolling out a small takeaway menu that features a few of its favourite dishes and a very impressive wine list. Pick up a shallot and sichuan pepper tarte tartin, steamed blood sausage buns, a gooey lemon meringue pie, leftover sourdough icecream, wood-fired sourdough loaves and cultured butter. Each week, one of the chefs will also create a finish-at-home meal box for two that can be ordered on Tuesday and picked up on Saturday.

One of Sydney's hottest restaurants, Saint Peter is the brainchild of Josh Niland, a fish aficionado just on the other side of 30 years old who has racked up acclaim from the city's best and brightest culinary minds. Embrace his nose-to-tail ethos by ordering from Mr Niland at Home, which lets you pick up dinners for two ready to serve in a couple of steps.
Order here by midday and pick up at the Fish Butchery (a few doors down from the restaurant) that same day between 3pm and 6pm.
"A little restaurant in Stanmore" that just so happens to have three hats from the Good Food Guide 2020. Usually you'd have to wait months to land a booking at Sixpenny, but now you can pick up a delicious dinner for two with a main, sides and dessert for just $90. Add a professionally paired bottle of wine for an extra $40. You know takeaway has changed when you can pick up three-hatted goodness like this.

Considered by many to be the crown jewel of Sydney's pizza scene since it opened its doors in late 2018, Bella Brutta's pedigree includes some of the brains and skills behind such restaurants as the recently closed LP's Quality Meats, Porteno, and Continental Deli. Don't be afraid to get the clam pizza. If you can spare the cash, donate to BB's ‘A Slice of Life’ campaign, which gives free meals to hospitality workers who have lost their jobs.

Butter is bringing some of the fresh vibes of its part sneaker store/part fried chicken shop/part champagne bar to your doorstep. Dip into that glorious fried chicken ramen or grab one of their towering burgers (the Master Spice if you don't mind the heat). They are also doing a collab with Glebe restaurant Thievery, serving up that famous chicken in halal snack packs and on kebabs alongside traditional Lebanese street food dishes.

This often-packed Mediterranean food joint is serving up takeaway TV dinner boxes for $20, featuring their fan-favourite chargrilled meats, dips, potatoes, pickled veggies and other tasty sides. You can also order almost everything off their normal menu.

If Butter doesn't satisfy your craving for fowl play, Hartsyard in Newtown might just do the job. Its fabled Roasted Bannockburn Chicken is a must-have. Get it as part of a Family Deal for 2 (half chicken, two sides, one bottle of wine) for $65 or a Family Deal for 4 (whole chicken, three sides, one bottle of wine) for $90. The Smoked Pork Jowl won't do you wrong, either.
One of Sydney's most iconic watering holes, The Unicorn has become just as known for slinging gigantic schnitties as they have for pulling thirst-quenching bevvies. But they're also offering up Mary's burgers, giving you a chance to get two of the most storied menu items in the city in one go. And don't forget the takeaway cocktails.
