Container - The box that changed the world

Saturday 20 October 2018 to Sunday 20 January 2019

This summer make sure you check out this exciting, free outdoor exhibition that explores the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most important innovations: the humble shipping container.

Colourful metal boxes will be scattered like giant Lego pieces around the Wollongong Foreshore starting at the southern end of WA Lang Park near WIN Entertainment Centre. Each box will reveal the secrets of how the shipping container has shaped the modern world, changing the way people produce, shop, eat, work and live.

Ubiquitous, standardised and universal, it’s easy to take the shipping container for granted. But some economists say this unassuming box has done more for global trade than every trade agreement signed over the past 50 years.

This unique, free exhibition will run for three months from Saturday 20 October until Sunday 20 January 2019.
