Merimbula Festival and Yarn Bombing
Saturday 17 August 2019 (WEEKLY event)
The Merimbula-Imlay Historical Society is staging the Merimbula Festival and Yarn Bombing project.
Six months in the making, this project will culminate in a two-week dressing of the Museum grounds and street furniture in colourful and imaginative crocheted, knitted or woven art works. Street art will brighten up Main, Market and Beach Streets in Merimbula and special events will be held at the Old School Museum on three consecutive Saturdays.
On the first Saturday there will be demonstrations of crafts such as weaving, crochet, knitting, spinning, patchwork, bonsai, jewellery making, book binding, fly-tying and more. There will also be special displays in the Museum, a photographic exhibition, musical performances by a ukulele band and lots of delicious food.
The second Saturday will include cooking demonstrations, a display mounted by the Bega and District Historical Machinery Club, and music by the Bega District Brass Band.
The last Saturday’s activities will focus fun for younger visitors and include the Scouts and Guides, a Museum quiz, a treasure hunt, a scarecrow parade and games.
Come and enjoy the action and feel part of the community while catching up with crafty friends and visitors and celebrating the unique and diverse history of the area.
