Eat and drink
The co-operative at Bermagui Fishermen’s Wharf is one of the largest seafood suppliers in the state. Taste the freshest catch at the fish and chip shops and restaurants inside the wharf complex. On Thursday afternoons over spring, summer and autumn, you can visit a local growers market on the harbour foreshore.
The rich soils in the region support farms and vineyards like Mimosa Wines and Rusty Fig Wines. You can visit the cellar door at Mimosa Wines and then pop next door to Drystone Restaurant, which celebrates locally sourced produce. Rusty Fig wines are also served at many restaurants and bars in Bermagui.
Things to do
Plenty of adventure tours are available, from game and reef fishing to sea kayaking. The tours cater for all levels of skill, from beginners to experienced anglers and kayakers. You will find a huge variety of fish in the deep blue ocean off Bermagui including morwong, kingfish, snapper, yellowfin tuna and black marlin.
Natural attractions abound around Bermagui, from Cuttagee Beach and Mimosa Rocks National Park to the Blue Pool and Camel Rock. The tranquil Wallaga Lake is popular for fishing and boating, and holds special significance for the local Aboriginal people. Nearby is the Montreal Goldfield, a well-preserved example of colonial alluvial diggings.

Bermagui is just over five hours’ drive from Sydney and 3h 30min from Canberra. You can fly into Merimbula Airport and rent a car for the scenic drive to Bermagui, which takes just over an hour. Places to stay in this spectacular region suit various budgets and range from holiday homes and motels to glamping and lakeside camping.
