Hyams Beach

Famed for its dazzling stretch of fine white sand, Hyams Beach is a small village in the beautiful Shoalhaven region of the NSW South Coast. Found on the southern shores of the splendid Jervis Bay Marine Park, the calm turquoise waters are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, fishing and stand-up paddleboarding.

Stroll the beach and feel the soft sands underfoot or roll out your towel and listen to the gentle waves. Spend an hour following the Hyams Beach trail, also known as the bird spotter’s walk, and keep an eye out for colourful rosellas. The walk through Jervis Bay National Park begins at the beach’s southern end.

The White Sands Walk concludes in Hyams Beach and takes in some of the whitest sands in the world. The 90-minute walk begins north at Greenfield Beach picnic area in Vincentia. South of Hyams Beach is Booderee National Park, where you can enjoy guided tours with Aboriginal rangers.

The marine park is a haven for dolphins, seals and penguins. You’ll also see humpback whales during their annual migration along the NSW South Coast. Tours to see dolphins and whales depart from Huskisson, a short drive north of Hyams Beach.

Hyams Beach is a 3hr drive from Sydney, following the spectacular Grand Pacific Drive. It takes 2hr 30min to drive from Canberra. You’ll find a range of places to stay, from cute cottages to luxury waterfront holiday houses and beach campsites in the national park.
