Snowy Mountains

Enjoy the best skiing and snowboarding in the magnificent Snowy Mountains of NSW, home to Australia’s highest peak. The adventure wonderland is brimming with fun experiences, from thrilling downhill runs on pristine snow to music festivals, wine tasting, fascinating heritage and much more.

The snow season is usually from early June to early October. In the spectacular Kosciuszko National Park is the towering Mount Kosciuszko, wonderful slopes and terrain parks for beginners to advance skiers and snowboarders, exhilarating cross-country skiing trails, as well as the four snow resorts:

Man skiing on the Thredbo slopes in the NSW Snowy Mountains

You’ll be thrilled with the great range of snow activities, including skiing, snow tubing, tobogganing and snowshoeing. You can even enjoy night skiing under the star-studded sky. The freestyle skiing is superb, with the jumps, boxes, rails and pipes in the terrain parks designed for different skill levels.

All the ski resorts offer lessons for beginners, including kids. For adventurers, amazing tours such as K7 Adventures, Alpine Access and Snow Safety will take you beyond the resorts into the backcountry of breathtaking natural beauty, from snow-gum forests to glacial lakes and rugged mountain ranges.

Friends skiing in Perisher in the NSW Snowy Mountains

There are fun events such as the Cross Country Ski Week in Perisher and exciting competitions like the Thredbo Snow Series. Away from the ski runs you’ll find plenty of marvellous things to do and see. Enjoy the best in après ski, with cosy fireside bars, delicious places to eat and great shopping.

Check out the exciting events calendar for festivals, markets and shows. The Perisher Peak Festival is a four-day music festival in early June and celebrates the official opening of the snow season. The Snowtunes Music Festival, on the shores of Lake Jindabyne, is held over two days from late August.

Wildbrumby Distillery and Cafe - Alpine Way - Jindabyne

You can explore the ancient Yarrangobilly Caves and swim nearby in a naturally heated thermal pool surrounded by snow. Horseriding is another wonderful year-round activity. Fishing is popular all year, too, in some of the well-stock waterways such as Lake Jindabyne and Lake Eucumbene.

There are elegant wineries to visit, as well as craft breweries such as the Dalgety Brewing Co. and a schnapps distillery, the Wildbrumby Distillery & Cafe. You’ll find accommodation at the snow resorts and in the nearby towns in the enchanting areas of Jindabyne, Cooma, Tumut and Tumbarumba.
