Once a bustling gold town that attracted more than 10,000 men, women and children, Kiandra saw the construction of banks, hotels and the usual services required by such a large population. In less than a year most of the gold was gone and the population was reduced to just 200 to 300. Today all that remains of Kiandra and its mining era are the cemetery, chimneys, cottages, race lines, dams and mullock heaps. Unfortunately, due to the 2020 bushfires, many of the timber structures were destroyed in the area, however, the self-guided heritage walk is available for visitors to explore and learn more about this historic location.
