Death of a Salesman is regarded as one of the best contemporary plays ever written. First appearing on Broadway in in 1949, it ran for a record 742 performances winning the Pulitzer Prize for best Drama and Tony Award for Best Play.
Since its premiere, the play has been revived on Broadway five times, and it has been adapted for the cinema on ten occasions.
Death of a Salesman is a two-part play that addresses loss of identity and a man's inability to accept change within himself and society. The play is a montage of memories, dreams, confrontations, and arguments, all of which make up the last 24 hours of Willy Loman's life.
This production, by Melbourne based Hearth Theatre is the culmination of an epic six-month rehearsal period, in which the cast immersed themselves in the world of the Loman family. Hearth Theatre have ensured the work is in tune with contemporary culture which is communicated effectively with theatre goers.
