The Rail Motor Society is a main line heritage rail operator, based about 50 kilometres north of Newcastle in the historic town of Paterson. Operated by volunteers, dedicated and passionate about restoring, maintaining and operating the Society's fleet of vintage rail motors. The fleet also boasts the oldest surviving rail motor in NSW dating from December 1923.

The Society operates out of the old Paterson Goods Yard, affectionately known as "The Depot" and consists of a large storage shed, yard and the old Station Master's cottage. The cottage houses a small museum of railway artefacts. Experience the glory days dating back to 1923 and view some of the best conserved heritage rolling stock in NSW.

The Rail Motor Society is accredited for main line operations in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. The Society offers visitors unique tours on board their historic fleet of rail motors, locally, across NSW and across Australia's south-east. Please contact them for further information.

The depot and museum is open to the public on the third Saturday of every month (except December). Other times by appointment. Open Days also include a ride to Dungog and return on one of the Society's heritage rail motors.

The Society can also provide guest speakers for meetings or other group engagements. Please contact the Secretary for more details.
