Prized produce from Black Range and beyond

The Lavington area has long provided fertile ground for a growing community. From the days when the Wiradjuri people lived off the land, through the development of the Black Range settlement and its successor Lavington, this region has supported a range of industries that relied on the natural resources of the area. From gold seeking to silk farming, wood carting and stone breaking, the early 1900s also saw Lavington become a prosperous fruit growing region, with local produce prized for its quality and variety.

This exhibition explores how this fertile valley supported the growth of food, housing and transport, telling the stories of some of the many families who made an impact on the region and helped to prosper the Lavington community of today.
