Bateau Bay

Be captivated by the charms of Bateau Bay, a small town on the NSW Central Coast. This beautiful spot is one of the region’s top fishing spots and also popular for snorkelling, bushwalking, hang-gliding and whale watching. Pack your swimsuit and a towel and find your own patch of sun-kissed sand on this lovely beach between two headlands.

Beaches and coastal walks

The beach is in the southern section of Wyrrabalong National Park, a picturesque wilderness with walking tracks, gorgeous beaches and picnic areas. The Coast walking track from the Bateau Bay Beach picnic area to Forresters Beach is one of the prettiest walks on the Central Coast and well worth doing.

Follow the long curve of the trail to Crackneck Point lookout, a vantage point for whale watching during the annual migration between May and November. The narrow walking track winds through a carpet of wildflowers in Spring, including flannel flowers, NSW's floral emblem for the Centenary of Federation.

The track is also great for birdwatching: look out for sea eagles, kestrels and the Australian pelican, Australia’s largest waterbird. Soak up stunning views of The Entrance and Tuggerah Lake and watch surfers catch waves at Shelly Beach.

Bateau Bay is a fishing paradise. You can throw a line in straight from the beach or off one of the many coastal rock platforms. At low tide, look for spots at the base of the iconic rock cliffs that run along the coast. Before you go, please read the following fishing safety tips, especially when rock fishing.

Pick up some fresh fish and chips to eat on the beach or have a browse around the boutiques at Bateau Bay Square. For more fun adventures, you can play 18 holes at the Shelly Beach Golf Club or take the family to the Bateau Bay Ten Pin Bowl.
