The Gosford region of the NSW Central Coast is blessed with magnificent national parks, glittering waterways and stunning beaches. As a year-round destination, it draws those who enjoy fun and adventure in the great outdoors: think swimming, surfing, kayaking, diving, fishing, bushwalking, horse riding and mountain biking.
Towns and villages
The seaside villages of Terrigal, Avoca Beach and Killcare are renowned for their gorgeous beaches and stunning coastline, which has helped to heighten the area's allure. Meanwhile, Ettalong Beach, Woy Woy and Gosford are located on the picturesque Brisbane Water, a more tranquil waterway for swimming, fishing and boating.
Nature and wildlife
Horse riding with Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures is an exhilarating way to explore the area. You can also hike through corridors of towering gums in Brisbane Water and Bouddi national parks to get to waterfalls and hidden beaches. Walk or cycle to spectacular lookouts such as Gerrin Point in Bouddi, a vantage point for whale watching.
On the water you can try everything from deep sea game fishing to kayaking on the Hawkesbury River; scuba diving at a scuttled warship site to learning how to ride a surfboard. Visit ancient indigenous rock engravings and learn about the Dreaming with Bara Barang Aboriginal Tours.
The acclaimed Australian Reptile Park is one of the region's many wonderful attractions: it's where you’ll encounter both friendly and deadly native creatures. You can enjoy a walk with Hugo, a giant Galapagos tortoise, hand-feed kangaroos, see snakes and some of Australia’s largest spiders, and take a selfie with koalas.
Arts and events
Those who appreciate the arts should visit Gosford Regional Art Gallery, which has a roster of exhibitions and gorgeous Japanese gardens. There are cultural festivals, exhibitions and museums, and an annual rural agricultural show, too. Check out the events calendar for the line-up of festivals, shows and markets.
