Careys Caves

Attraction - Educational, Natural


The land surrounding the cave has been owned by the Carey family since the early settlement days. The late John Carey discovered the cave by candlelight and carved his name and the date 1875 on a formation in the cave.

The cave entrance is only 45 metres from the car park and conveniently placed steps make the entrance. Inspection of the cave is a pleasure for the older and younger visitors.There are 7 main chambers within the cave and all types of limestoneformations may be seen in this one cave.

The extension of Carey's Cave, which may also be inspected, is the signature cave, called so because of the number of signatures on the roof, the graffiti of pioneers. Facilities include: Kiosk and picnic facilities are located in the cave grounds.

After the fascinating and enthusiastic tour, there is a "hands on " time for kids of all ages which will delight and amaze!

Apart from the Caves, there is Wee Jasper itself, in a beautiful valley where visitors can fish in some of the best streams in Australia. Camping sites are available in various recreational reserves in the Wee Jasper area.
