Lightning Ridge Easter Festival - Festivals and Celebrations, Sporting Events
This year is the 33rd running of the Lightning Ridge Great Goat Race. The weekend is sure to be one to remember with the Australian Championship Goat Races, wheelie bin races, horse races, rodeo, buskers, street stalls, fireworks, live music, arts & crafts and much more.
Lightning Ridge is famous for black opal mined from the ridges that surround this unique town. It is also renowned for the cultural diversity and relaxed atmosphere.
Lightning Ridge Great Goat Race Australian Championships
Goats can be purchased for $50 including nomination. You do not get to choose your goat, a number system applies. Goats must be purchased between 7.30am and 8.30am on Saturday morning. Gigs are supplied but if you can, please bring your own helmet.
If you wish to enter your own goat the fee is $20 - please register on Good Friday at the Lightning Ridge Hotel Motel. You must be at the registration desk before 8.00am on Easter Saturday or you may lose your spot.
