The forested valleys and sandstone escarpments of the Blue Mountains are the setting for an immersive wildlife experience and some of Australia's most stunning wilderness scenery.

Away from the well-trodden paths of the Katoomba area, the ranges provide some of the most spectacular bush walks and vistas in Australia and the best way to experience this region is in the company of a local guide. His intimate knowledge of the bush will help reveal its secret spots; grassy clearings with perfect grazing for grey kangaroos; isolated waterways and ideal habitat for platypus; or wombat spotting at dusk.

The drive from the centre of Sydney will take less than two hours. At a beautifully rustic little vineyard near Bowral you'll meet your guide. There is time for wine tasting and a chat with the wine maker before you head off to the secret bush location.

    Departing Sydney (self-drive) by 8.30am and after a 90 minute drive it will bring you to Mittagong in the heart of the Southern Highlands. Just a short drive from Mittagong takes you into the wine regions of the Southern Highlands and the oldest vineyard in the district, Joadja. At Joadja Vineyard you will be met by their guide Mark and winemaker, Kim, will take you through his selection of wines.

    Then it's a short drive by four wheel drive into the wilderness of the southern Blue Mountains and some of Australia's most spectacular scenery. Over morning tea and with beautiful views across the Wollondilly River, Mark will explain the history of the area.

    Enjoy a barbecue lunch and a bottle of wine in this quiet seclusion on a private property on the banks of the Wollondilly River. Enjoy an evening sundowner drink before returning to Joadja at 5.30pm where you will collect your car and return to Sydney.
