Redcoats and Convicts

Redcoats and Convicts

Reporter: Rose Kelly

Step back in time at the Redcoats and Convicts day in the Hyde Park Barracks. This event is designed to give people a taste of what life was like for convicts living in Australia back in the 19th century. There are heaps of exciting things to see including re-enactments of Redcoats firing live muskets and convicts carrying out their daily chores. There's an exhibition to explore and if you're interested in learning more about the history of the world heritage listed site then you can join one of the informative curator talks on the day.

This is a great one for the kids and they'll be truly fascinated by the exciting and sometimes gory stories told by the convicts. It's also interactive so they can get dressed up in convict attire and get involved in performing some basic convict tasks, like making mud bricks. This is a fantastic day out, not only will the whole family get a history lesson but you'll all leave with a newfound appreciation for our modern way of life.
