Wave Hill Station

Reporter: Jason & Beck Stevens
For a true Aussie bush experience grab your akubra, say goodbye to the big smoke and hit the road for Wave Hill Station. This 5000 hectare property is a working farm and will give you some fascinating and hands-on insight into country life.
There are heaps of activities on site to get your blood pumping. Horse-riding is a must here and there are 14 beautiful horses to choose from. There are also heaps of other animals on site including 1500 cattle roaming the property and keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and even echidnas. There’s a 4WD track that will take you to the stunning Clarence River Gorge and once you’re by the river there are no shortage of activities. Try your luck with some fishing, take a dip in the rock pools, or jump in a kayak and go for a paddle.
There are a number of different accommodation options here including three cosy bush cabins. The Orange Tree Cottage was recently renovated and has a groovy, retro feel. The Gorge View Lodge is magnificent and it’s situated right on the Clarence River with lovely water views and spacious bedrooms. However, if you really want to feel like you’ve gone bush the Dingo Dam Cottage is perfect. It’s really cosy with a rustic 1800’s feel and there’s no electricity in this one, everything is powered by gas or solar panels. After a weekend in this cabin you’ll feel like you’ve had an authentic taste of country life.
